What to know...
1-Piece Wheels: Typically made from aluminum alloy, 1-piece wheels are formed by casting molten aluminum into a mold and are the most common option when it comes to buying wheels for your truck, Jeep, or SUV. They come in many different finishes and are easier to produce then other alloy wheels, so they tend to cost less.
2-Piece Wheels: As the name infers, 2-piece wheels consist of two parts - a rim and a center piece. Two-piece rims tend to offer more design flexibility and customization options than one-piece rims, with a wide variety of offset and width options, finish combinations, and often a deep-dish appearance. Two-piece rims are a good choice for high-performance and off-road vehicles because they are flexible and can absorb shocks.
Forged Wheels: Forged wheels are made from solid aluminum that is heated and pressed into a wheel shape using a machine press. The process is called forging, and the name comes from the way the aluminum is hammered into the desired shape. The pressure causes the aluminum to flow and stretch, creating a wheel that is stronger and lighter than other types of wheels. While forged wheels are lighter and stronger than other molded alloy wheels, that added strength comes at a cost, with forged wheels being one of the more expensive options due to the complex production process.
